How are our coconuts harvested?

No industrial-based suppliers of coconut products use monkeys to collect its’ coconuts in Thailand.

Our company, Blue Monkey, frequently visits its’ production factories and sourcing areas and has found no evidence whatsoever of the presence of monkeys or using monkeys in the process of manufacturing coconut products. The film footage and photos that are being circulated nationally and internationally by the media, social media platforms and such websites as PETA, are depicting the presence of monkeys used by small, localized coconut farmers for their own coconut consumption, small roadside stands or local tourist attractions.

Popular commercial demand for coconut products from Thailand is for the international export markets. Demand of this scale requires human labor and automation in sourcing the coconuts up to and including factory production. The annual commercial volume that Thai coconut producers manufacture, and export could not possibly be sustained by using rudimentary practices, such as monkey labor to harvest coconuts. Using monkeys to source and/or collect coconuts for commercial production is not a viable means for any measure of volume.

We have researched this extensively, both in person on site visits, as well as consulting with the appropriate trade authorities and the conclusion has been consistently the same. Monkeys are not used for the commercial production of coconut water or any coconut products in Thailand. We can also attest to the fact that the same ruling applies to other regions of Asia where we source our Blue Monkey coconut products.

We have attached video footage that outlines the process from farm to production.
